VOLUNTEERS FOR THE LANGUAGE

Have you done a course in Catalan but don’t speak the language on a daily basis? Can’t speak it fluently? Want to practise it?

Would you like to get to know the diverse range of people making up Catalan society? Do you want to chat in Catalan with others learning the language?

Yes? Then come and join us!
Òmnium puts someone who speaks Catalan in contact with someone else seeking to practise it to improve their fluency in the spoken language.
After the introductory day, the “language pair” meet once a week to chat in Catalan. They meet at least ten times and during a timetable agreed between the volunteers.

The goal of the initiative is that everyone living in Catalonia can have the chance to familiarise themselves with Catalan and be able to express themselves in it. The programme also aims to ensure mutual cultural enrichment, helping those from different cultures to live together and understand each other better. It seeks to help make Catalan the normal language in relations between all Catalans, whatever their geographic or social origins. After all, knowledge of Catalan is a requirement to be able to work, study and live in this country.
