THE SAMBORI ÒMNIUM PRIZE
The Sambori Òmnium Prize is a school prize for stories in Catalan. Its mission is to promote and spread the use of Catalan at school, to incentivise artistic creativity and imagination amongst children throughout the Catalan Countries and to give prestige to creation in the Catalan language at school, in the final aim of becoming a project of reference within the Catalan Countries.
In 1998, Valencia created and promoted the Sambori Prize with the support of associations that would group together (from 2004) on under the aegis of the Fundació Sambori. It was in 2007 that the prize was first awarded in Catalonia in partnership with the Fundació Sambori, with the inclusion of the literary prizes for schools awarded by Òmnium Cultural’s local offices. From the 2010-2011 academic year on, the goal is have a Sambori Prize for the Catalan Countries, reaching everywhere that Catalan is spoken and schoolchildren of all ages, from pre-primary to the end of high school.
The prize is organised by the Fundació Sambori in Valencia and by Òmnium Cultural in Catalonia and enjoys the support of the Institute of Catalan Letters and the Ministry of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the government of Catalonia.
